Health Assessment Course for Registered Nurses
A 13-week, self-paced distance course provides the Registered Nurse with the knowledge and skills to perform a comprehensive health assessment on adult clients.
Program
The Health Assessment Course is delivered via distance using print-based material, which consists of 11 self-learning modules.
The course is offered in September and January of each year.Units
The course contains eleven units:
| Unit 1 | Completing a Health History and Physical Examination |
| Unit 2 | Assessment of the Integument |
| Unit 3 | Assessment of the Head, Neck, Regional Lymphatics, Nose, Mouth and Throat |
| Unit 4 | Assessment of the Eye and Ear |
| Unit 5 | Assessment of the Neurological System |
| Unit 6 | Assessment of the Musculoskeletal System |
| Unit 7 | Assessment of the Respiratory System |
| Unit 8 | Assessment of the Heart and Vascular System |
| Unit 9 | Assessment of the Abdomen |
| Unit 10 | Assessment of the Breasts, Axillae and Genitourinary System |
| Unit 11 | Putting it all together |
Course Evaluation
Program Fees
Course materials will be provided to the learner. The health assessment textbook must be returned upon completion of the course.Program Completion
Learners who have successfully completed the course will be awarded a certificate from the Centre for Nursing Studies. Memorial University has reviewed this course and granted content equivalency with N2040, the Health Assessment Course offered within the BN (Post RN) Program. Athabasca and St. Francis Xavier Universities provide transfer credits for the Health Assessment Course offered at the Centre for Nursing Studies.
