Cont. Ed. : Health Assessment Course for Licensed Practical Nurses

A 13-week, self-paced distance course provides the Licensed Practical Nurse with the knowledge and skills to assess adult clients utilizing appropriate health assessment skills.

Program

The Health assessment course is delivered via distance using print based materials and onsite lab teaching sessions. It consists of 10 self-learning modules and 3 lab sessions. Communication between the learner and course facilitator is encouraged.

The Health Assessment Course is offered in September and January.

Theory

There are two written examination, one lab examination, and three lab days. The pass mark is 70%. The course facilitator will guide learners in completion of a health assessment clinical paper for submission.

Unit 1 Completing a Health History and Physical Examination
Unit 2 Assessment of the Skin, Hair & Nails
Unit 3 Assessment of the Head, Neck, Lymph Nodes, Nose, Mouth and Throat
Unit 4 Assessment of Eyes and Ears
Unit 5 Assessment of the Neurological System
Unit 6 Assessment of the Musculoskeletal System
Unit 7 Assessment of the Lungs and Thorax
Unit 8 Assessment of the Cardiac and Peripheral vascular System
Unit 9 Assessment of the Gastrointestinal
Unit 10 Assessment of the Breasts, Axillae and Genitourinary system
